Artist and naturalist, James Prosek, will show how to make what is called a "study skin" or how a bird is prepared for museum collections (usually in the field). The bird is skinned and then stuffed with cotton. Prosek will discuss a bit about the history of collecting things in nature and naming them, what that all means, and why museums make collections in the first place...  (BYOB — bring your own bird)

40th Anniversary Prince Lecture Series

Nichols School, 1250 Amherst St.
Buffalo, NY
The Prince Lecture series was established in the mid 1970's by S. Warren Prince, Jr., a Nichols graduate of the class of 1947 and President of Prince Rubber & Plastics Co, in honor of his father, Sidney Warren Prince, Sr. Each year a person of national renown is invited to Nichols to address the student body during the academic day and to address the public-at-large in the evening. A wide range of topics has been covered by a variety of speakers, yet the general principle of educating the audiences about current work in a variety of academic fields has been followed by most speakers.
